Lumbo-pelvic Motor Control Deficits Seminar

March 8, Toronto, ON –  The Ontario Massage Therapists Association (OMTA) announces a one-day continuing education event to be held at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Toronto, on Sunday, March 14, 2010.

The event will be held at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy Campus, on Finch Avenue in Toronto, and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  (Remember that daylight savings time begins on the day of this seminar!)

This one day practical course will focus on the therapist’s ability to recognize and treat common low back stability dysfunctions in the clinic. Techniques will be focused on assessing the inner unit muscles of the low back (diaphragm, transverse abdominus, multifidi and pelvic floor) for decreased control, decreased endurance and imbalances. The therapist will learn how to identify patients with motor control deficits that will benefit from a stability exercise program. This course is designed to challenge the therapist’s clinical reasoning skills, and the knowledge gained will be easy for the
therapist to apply to clinical practice right away.

Attendees are asked to wear appropriate clothing (shorts and t-shirt) to the course as the back and pelvis area will need to be exposed during the practical component.

The speaker for the day will be Aaron Rutter, PT, FCAMT, CAFCI.  A graduate of Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science for physical therapy, Aaron also has the distinction of working at the university as an Adjunct  Professor involved in clinical education for physiotherapy students.

Aaron has been a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists since 2006, holding a Certificate of Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy. He has been certified with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute since 2008. Aaron also holds post-graduate accreditation in many other areas some of which include McKenzie, Sahrmann, and Mulligan treatment approaches.

In 2007 Aaron began assisting with the teaching of the Advanced Manual and Manipulative Therapy Diploma program through the Orthopedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. He also has been providing post graduate courses for registered physiotherapists and massage therapists since 2005.
