CMTO investigates Sudbury RMT on sex assault charges
The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) has appointed an investigator to look into sexual assault allegations against a registered massage therapist in Sudbury, Ont.

Luis Bernal was recently charged with seven counts of sexual assault, according to a statement from the CMTO.
“Transparency is a paramount at CMTO,” the college said in a statement. “Upholding these values involves balancing the principles of public protection and accountability with fairness and privacy. CMTO makes as much information available to the public as is permitted by legislation.”
The college said it is cooperating with the Greater Sudbury Police in the investigation related to Bernal’s sexual assault allegations.
CMTO also reminded members of the public that they can look up any RMT in Ontario through the CMTO’s public register, which is listed on its website. This register contains updated information on every registered massage therapists in the province, including those who are no longer in practice.
CMTO is the not-for-profit organization established by the provincial government to regulate the conduct of registered massage therapists in the province of Ontario, through the provisions of the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and the Massage Therapy Act, 1991.
