July 20,
Evanston, Ill. – Rhonda Marie Avery, an RMT student at Sir Sandford Fleming
College in Ontario, has achieved the Massage Therapy Foundation’s (MTF)
Student Case Report Contest Gold Award.

Avery’s paper titled “Massage Therapy for Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease: Alleviating a Pain in the Neck?” received highest honours in this annual contest held by the MTC that fosters an opportunity for students to develop research skills by conducting their own research case report in which they will summarize their results in the format of a professional research paper. Top-rated reports will receive recognition in the way of publication opportunities and cash rewards.

This educational event also provides research acclaim for the host schools as students are required to work with a clinical and case report supervisor. These roles involve providing collaborative management for the case study in question, and/or guidance as the student researches and writes the paper, respectively.

The MTC selects Gold, Silver and Bronze awards, as well as two Honourable Mentions. Winning case studies have been selected from all over the globe, in the past, and this year is no exception: 2011 contest winners hail from the United States, Canada and New Zealand.

Massage Therapy Canada would like to acknowledge all those students entered this competition and also extend its congratulations to Rhonda Marie Avery, and the other students who achieved awards, for winning this year’s MTC competition.

For more details on this year’s contest winners, as well as guidelines to enter next year’s competition (submission deadline, March 1, 2012), please visit www.massagetherapyfoundation.org.
