Greetings to all … The Spring 2006 issue of Massage Therapy Canada magazine represents the well-known and often-used phrase “practice what you preach.”

We have assembled a number of features in this issue on the topic of self-care. As with each issue, topics are expansive and are touched upon in MTC, with the hopes of drawing attention to and encouraging learning about different facets of our profession.

Self-care is an important topic, one that should move us to taking better care of the caregiver in all of us. I know when I was in practice, I often found myself thinking “gee that was a great home care program I just gave that person … I should be doing those stretches myself.”  Then, I would go on with my daily routine, unchanged.

As caregivers, we are all in the same boat and we all have in common the guilt attached to not following our own advice.

I hope you enjoy reading about this important topic of self-care and, if you are not already doing so, I urge you to find the time to take care of yourself along with your clients. It will really make a difference in your life – physically and emotionally.

Sincerely,

Jill Rogers, RMT
