Massage Therapy in support of Erica’s Wish fundraiser

Aug. 16, Mississauga, ON – For the second year in a row, Registered Massage Therapist Paul Lewis organized the pre and post sports massage therapy tent at the annual Erica’s Wish Charity Fundraiser.

Erica’s
Wish was first held on August 16, 2009 on Erica’s birthday, and raised much-
needed funds for the cancer Society and Erica.  This event raises
awareness of osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and kids fighting cancer.  Erica’s
Wish was created when a little girl, Erica Scarff, was diagnosed with osteogenic
sarcoma (osteosarcoma).  This is the same cancer that Terry Fox had.
Erica, like Terry, had a long series of chemotherapy treatments and a modified
amputation.  She continues to battle the effects of chemotherapy
treatments and day-to-day challenges from surgery.

The Erica’s Wish races

This
year the 1k, 5k and 10k races at the Erica’s Wish 2010 Fundraiser were held on
August 15.

Despite
their busy schedules, Paul and a number of RMTs whom he called upon,  donated their time at the Sports Massage Tent
for a fun-filled day at Erindale Park in Mississauga,
Ontario, Canada.
Treatments were available for participants of all ages. Either the
massage table or massage chair were utilized to augment the sports massage,
depending on the participant’s needs.

Race
director Sue Strong says, “Paul did such a wonderful job last year organizing
the sports massage therapy tent that we were glad to have him once again agree
to volunteer his time and equipment”.

No
stranger to volunteering, Paul Lewis believes it is very important to get
involved in the community and to promote public perception of massage
therapy.
