“Our Board of Directors is delighted to see our efforts rewarded for reaching out to consumers to educate them on the health benefits of massage therapy and directly promote our members as the first choice for massage,” says AMTA President Winona Bontrager. “We are committed to this consumer awareness program to bring our members new clients. And, we are so proud to be recognized for our first year of the program.”
With this multi-level consumer awareness program, AMTA expanded its efforts with the media, launched a direct consumer experience tour and bought advertising in key markets. AMTA’s Research Roundup, a compilation of findings on the benefits of massage for health reasons, was a major success with consumer media, and also provided members with client talking points.
AMTA reached hundreds of thousands of potential clients through direct contact during the tour and earned hundreds of millions of media impressions through proactive media relations. Nearly one hundred member volunteers participated and the association saw an increase in areas of membership, especially among students. The momentum created in the first year of the consumer awareness program is continuing in 2013 as AMTA promotes the health benefits of massage and our members through advertising, AMTA’s Massage Therapy Tour, Research Roundups and ongoing media efforts.
The American Massage Therapy Association is the largest non-profit, professional association serving massage therapists, massage students and massage schools. The association is directed by volunteer leadership and fosters ongoing, direct member-involvement through its 51 chapters. AMTA works to advance the profession through ethics and standards, the promotion of fair and consistent licensing of massage therapists in all states, and public education on the benefits of massage.
