Each year the FHT solicits nominations of federation members for excellence awards in various categories. This year they received substantially more entries than in previous years. In recognition of the many truly outstanding nominees, in addition to selecting winners in each category the judges have awarded the accolades of ‘Highly Commended’ or ‘Commended’ to particularly deserving members and fellows who were shortlisted.

With thousands of members, the FHT offers a broad range of specializations – from sports and remedial therapies, to complementary healthcare and holistic beauty treatments.

Lewis, massage therapist and skilled teacher of advanced techniques, was nominated for Excellence as a Training Provider. FHT has awarded him the accolade of ‘Highly Commended’ for his contributions to the massage profession.

The 2015 FHT Excellence awards were presented at a special gala awards dinner on September 5th, in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. Lewis was unable to accept the award in person due to another engagement.

“I feel truly honoured to be receiving this award and feel that as health professionals, together we can promote the profession and continue to educate the public on the importance of including complementary alternative practices in a collaborative approach to client centered care,” Lewis said in a statement.

Lewis works with chiropractors, medical doctors and in multidisciplinary settings providing collaborative treatment within his scope of practice. He sees patients with pain, discomfort and restricted range of motion resulting from surgical procedures, such as mastectomy and hip/knee replacements, as well as with other soft tissue-related issues. He recently spoke to second-year medical students at Warwick University about care for breast cancer patients, incorporating discussions on case presentation, pathology, treatment and outcomes, and introduced them to the important role complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) can play in breast cancer care.

A registered massage therapist and combined decongestive therapist, Lewis is also conducts workshops based on his clinical experience and knowledge. He is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork in the U.S., the American Massage Therapy Association and also with The Federation of Holistic Therapists and the Complementary and Natural Health Council in Great Britain.

Lewis has taught advanced treatment techniques, using a method called Dynamic Angular Petrissage, across North America, Europe and Japan. He has also contributed to a number of publications, including a case report currently under review by the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and has recently completed preliminary filming of two new DVDs about joint mobilization and temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
