Whether by choice, or design, you are an Entrepreneur

Not all RMTs chose their career to become small business owners. You may have been enticed by the idea of being your own boss and making your own hours. However, a caregiver does not necessarily have a heart for business. Whether by choice or by design, you are a small business owner – an entrepreneur!

Not all RMTs chose their career to become small business owners. You may have been enticed by the idea of being your own boss and making your own hours. However, a caregiver does not necessarily have a heart for business. Whether by choice or by design, you are a small business owner – an entrepreneur!

As a Massage Therapist, you wear many hats and must not overlook the relationship that is present between them. Balance between your personal life, your profession, and being a business owner is the key to living a healthy life. When one area of your being is out of sync, all others can be influenced. For example, if you are struggling with the business area of your life, i.e. financial concerns, a “client” could represent a “hydro bill payment.”

There is a danger of focusing on revenue and creating a distraction from effective treatment. A therapist’s touch can reflect how the Therapist is feeling at the time. If you are overwhelmed in your personal life, it may impact the quality of your therapy, and conversely, if you have become fatigued as a caregiver, it could impact your personal life.

We are aware of these obstacles. The question is “how do I achieve and maintain overall balance?”

Everyone has the ability to find self-help information and tips. We access these via e-mail, articles, self-help books, etc. How many people actually apply these gems to their lives? Why, with all the resources available to us, are we struggling to achieve personal balance?

When measuring balance, we could use the analogy of an athlete to create a picture. What is present in an athlete’s world? Passion, energy, good health, drive, competitive nature, ability/talent.

These qualities are necessary to succeed as an athlete (as with any career). However, these qualities are not enough. Athletes also have managers, therapists, and coaches. This support staff provides accountability, support, encouragement and most importantly FOCUS.

Life and Career Coaching has become a service that many professionals are tapping in to. Life and Career Coaching can bridge the gaps, provide encouragement/support, and be a form of accountability and over-all focus. You may rely on your friends and family to provide this form of coaching, but this may not be effective for you or for your family and friends.

Take the time to consider whether your missing link is a Personal and Career Coach. Feel free to contact me if you have an interest in or questions concerning professional coaching. garry@words2action.com
