Massage therapy improves general blood flow and alleviates muscle soreness after exercise, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The study, reported online in advance of print in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also showed that massage improved vascular function in people who had not exercised, suggesting that massage has benefits for people regardless of their level of physical activity.

March 18, 2014 — The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) has announced Dr. Mehmet Oz will be the keynote speaker at the AMTA National Convention this September in Denver.   Dr. Oz will address attendees at the opening session of the convention Thursday, Sept. 18 and then participate in a special book-signing session in the exhibit hall. The focus of his talk will be massage therapy and health and wellness.
March 11, 2014 — The Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) has launched a new research project with Samueli Institute. MTF selected Samueli Institute, based in Alexandria, Va., to lead an independent exploration of the impact of massage therapy on chronic pain, and to identify gaps in knowledge that can help direct future research.
