The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of an instrument assisted massage technique on pain levels and the way in which the body processes the feeling of pain. People with fibromyalgia and healthy individuals over the age of 35 with no injuries or chronic conditions will be asked to participate in the study.

Study participants will be asked to complete questionnaires about their general health and perception of pain. Participants will have their pain perception tested by a small heat device placed on the skin and researchers will perform an instrument assisted light brushing treatment to three different areas.

The study consists of one testing session lasting about 1.5 hours. Only volunteers within the university’s local vicinity will be eligible to participate.
